Social and Environmental Sustainability
How we care for people and nature
Finding harmony for people and nature has always been central to BluGem’s business philosophy. The location of our base of operations alongside a UNESCO biosphere reserve provides our staff with the opportunity to engage in hands-on preservation and team building in some stunning coast and moorland in North Devon, England. This is complemented by a range of charitable activities that support health, sport and culture.
Sponsoring the Barnstaple 10K Run; Caring for Local Kids

Each year our local community organises a fun run to raise money for Care for Kids North Devon, a charity that supports families with poorly children. BluGem is proud to sponsor the event, and to participate with our own team of runners. The course is very convenient – it goes right by our offices!
Children's Hospice South West
These 47 volunteers belong to the Youth Ambassadors program of Children's Hospice South West (CHSW), a group of healthcare facilities that serves children across Southwest of England. They raise money for the hospices whilst learning valuable skills. BluGem are sponsors of the CHSW Youth Ambassadors and their brightly-coloured outfits.

Barney to Beach 14k run

‘Barney to Beach’ is a 14km run designed to promote exercise whilst raising money for local charities. BluGem sponsored in September 2024 as part of our support for Families in Grief, a charity that provides bereavement support to families and which trains agencies on how to respond to the challenges faced by the recently bereaved.
Children's Hospice South West bear auction
Blue Sky and Dazzling Ursa are two statuesque bears that joined BluGem’s team in 2023 after being auctioned for charity. They were created by local artists for a community arts project in support of Children’s Hospice South West.

North Devon Tarka Storm Rugby

We were sponsors of the local Tarka Storm Rugby League Club. Rugby League is a traditional sport that instils the virtues of discipline and teamwork amongst players.
Surfers Against Sewage
As a business located by the coast, we have a deep respect for the need to protect the sea. That is why we support SAS (Surfers Against Sewage), a UK based non-profit organisation, that takes action for clean oceans, waves, beaches, and marine life.
