SMS Firewall Testing
SMS Firewall Assurance
Messaging firewalls are a critical line of defence against scams, spam, fraud and other messaging threats. As fraudsters continually adapt their techniques, firewall policies must be regularly tested and updated to remain effective.
Our independent assurance also supports Ofcom's new General Condition C9, with the new P2P messaging requirements coming into force on 18 January 2027. These require UK operators to regularly review their scam protection measures to ensure they remain effective.
- Validate firewall effectiveness and identify configuration weaknesses
- Independently verify firewall products and deployed solutions
- Verify legitimate A2P messages are delivered successfully
- Identify scam and fraudulent SMS messages reaching subscribers
BluGem's SMS firewall testing uses controlled, customer-defined test scenarios, including agreed sender numbers, keywords and message content, to validate how firewall rules respond and identify potential filtering weaknesses.
Testing can be complemented by passive SMS monitoring using real devices on live networks, providing visibility of scam, spam and potentially fraudulent messages reaching subscribers and emerging techniques being used to evade protection.
Together, these capabilities help validate both the effectiveness of scam protection and the successful delivery of legitimate A2P messaging.
Supporting evolving regulatory requirements
As regulators strengthen requirements to protect consumers from messaging scams, independent testing can provide valuable evidence that protection measures are operating effectively.
In the UK, Ofcom's new General Condition C9 requires communications providers to regularly review their scam protection systems and processes to ensure they remain appropriate, effective and operate as intended. BluGem's independent firewall testing can support these requirements by validating controls under live network conditions and providing objective evidence of firewall performance.
